Scooter Hayes is a Children’s Librarian at New Hanover County Public Library in Wilmington, North Carolina. While getting his Masters in Library Science at East Carolina University, Hayes created The Dewey Decimal Rap for a class project. Since then, the video has gotten over a million views on YouTube and Hayes has released two children’s albums as Melvil Dewey – International Library Hip Hop Superstar. Hayes performs regularly across the United States advocating reading and teaching children about the importance of libraries in our schools and communities. Complete with book turntables, a rapping book mark and golden library cards, this high-energy hip hop artist empowers children to speak up for their library and encourages them to become lifelong readers.
